Men's Volleyball Eliminated from HVMAC Tourney by Yeshiva

NEW YORK, NY – The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team lost in straight-sets to number one seed Yeshiva University, 30-10, 30-13, 30-17, in the semifinals of the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday night at the Max Stern Gymnasium.

Maciej Sadowski (Brooklyn, NY/Cathedral Prep) led St. Joseph's (1-16) putting away five kills with three block assists.  Martin Torres (Ozone Park, NY/St. Francis Prep) added four kills with a .333 hitting percentage.  Torres was named to the 2010 HVMAC Volleyball All-Conference Team announced after the championship game.  Muhammad Ali Bhatti (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) dished out nine assists.  Bhatti, Sadowski, Torres, Anthony Grasso (Jackson Heights, NY/St. John's Prep) and Mike Modugno (Astoria, NY/St. John's Prep) each had four digs.

Yeshiva (13-14) was led by David Kahana, who was named Tournament MVP, recording a 19 kill, 14 dig double-double.  Zanvy Grauman added 15 kills and Raphael Herskovits had 11 kills.  Joseph Bajtner dished out 40 assists.  

Yeshiva dominated the contest from start to finish hitting an efficient .367 and totaling 52 kills for the match while the Bears were only able to muster 16 kills.

Yeshiva, who was undefeated in HVMAC play in the regular season, went on to capture the tournament championship defeating #2 Cooper Union in straight sets, 30-17, 30-22, 30-25.

St. Joseph's concludes the 2010 season hosting Webb on Tuesday, March 30th, celebrating Senior Night, honoring the final games for Ed Han (McLean, VA/W.T. Woodson) and Pat Chiarel (Woodside, NY/Archbishop Molloy).  Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Brooklyn Technical High School.
