Volleyball Downed in Weekend Tri-Match

NEW HAVEN, CT – The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team traveled to New Haven, Connecticut over the weekend to compete in a weekend tri-match with Albertus Magnus and Mount Saint Vincent. The Bears fell 0-3 in both sets and are now 0-6 (0-1 HVMAC) on the year.

The first opponent for the Bears was the host Falcons. Martin Torres (Ozone Park, NY/St. Francis Prep) led the team with 6.5 points and two kills. St. Joseph's held their own to start the match, dropping the first set 14-25. That was the closest they came, losing the next two 12-25 and 10-25. Raymond Morales (Brooklyn, NY/Lasalle Academy) also had two kills and Iqbal Husain (West Palm Beach, FL/Palm Beach Gardens) led the team with seven assists.

Douglas DeSousa led the Falcons with 11 kills and David Teodosio dished out 18 assists.

St. Joseph's didn't fare much better in the second match against Mount Saint Vincent, falling in straight sets 10-25, 8-25, 9-25. Morales and Muhammad Ali Bhatti (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) each had two kills and Husain had three assists.

The Dolphins finished with 35 kills, 15 coming from David Guerrero. Michael Quinn was the beneficiary of all the kills, he tallied 28 assists.

The Bears are back on the court on Wednesday, March 2nd as they visit Medgar Evers.
