Urshela and Kennedy Sweep HVIAC Weekly Volleyball Awards

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Recognizing their outstanding performances in helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team to a victory over Medgar Evers College, junior Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) and sophomore Thomas Kennedy (Breezy Point, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) have been named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) men's volleyball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Urshela led the Bears to a win over the Cougars in their lone game of the week, slamming down an impressive 23 kills, one shy of a career high, in the four-set win. The outside hitter finished with a .405 hitting percentage and fell two digs shy of his first double-double of the season. The junior concluded the week with 5.75 kills, 2.00 digs and 6.2 points per set.

Kennedy played well in his first collegiate match, finishing with three kills, three digs and a match-high-tying seven service aces. The outside hitter ended the week with 2.5 points per set.

Urshela takes home Player of the Week honors from the HVIAC for the second time this season and fifth time over his three seasons with the Bears, while Kennedy receives his first Rookie of the Week nod.

St. Joseph's (2-3) looks to level their record as they travel to Lehman College on Wednesday, March 5th with first serve at 8 p.m.
