The Bear Facts

Last Time Out: St. Joseph's was beaten by Purchase College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-11), on Thursday night at the Purchase College gym. Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) and Clyde Delacruz (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglas Academy II) tied the team-high with four kills apiece.

St. Joseph's is off to their best start in school history at 3-6 and look to pick up their fourth and fifth victories in a season in the fewest amount of games in the program's history with a triumphs over both the Bulldogs and Raptors.

Three-time HVIAC Player of the Week Raul Urshela leads the way for St. Joseph's on the offensive end with 107 kills for a 3.45 kills per set average. The junior also has 48 digs and 11 blocks on the season and leads the Bears with a .169 hitting percentage. Urshela is coming off a 14-kill performance versus Yeshiva that saw him pass assistant coach Martin Torres for most kills (447) in school history.

Helping orchestrate the offense is senior setter Iqbal Husain who has 164 assists on the year and averages 5.29 assists per set. Husain also is tied with Urshela for second on the team with 48 digs and has five blocks on the year.

Sophomore Taso Kostikas provides another offensive force for St. Joseph's with 36 kills and leads the team with 2.81 digs (87 total) and 0.42 service aces per set.

In the Doghouse

Last Time Out: The Bulldogs dropped a thrilling five-set match to York College 3-2 (25-15, 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 13-15) Thursday night.

The Bulldogs are led on the offensive end by Antony Koyfman and Mihail Osipov. Both Koyfman and Ospiov in the top ten of the CUNYAC for kills (163 & 158 respectively). They are also both in the top ten of the conference in hitting percentage.

Providing support is Timothy Hui, who averages 5.75 assists per set (No. 7 in CUNYAC) and has 133 digs on the year. Hui also has 410 assists so far this season.

Raging Raptors

Last Time Out: Alex Adams produced a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs in leading the Bard College men's volleyball team over Lehman College, 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22), in a non-league game.

The Raptors have lost seven of their last nine games. Billy Williams is the leader of Bard on offense with 2.55 kills per set and 219 total kills. The middle blocker also leads the conference with a .214 hitting percentage and 0.88 blocks per set.

Orchestrating the Bard offense is Henry Kasiske who notches 7.37 assists per set and has compiled 634 total assists this season. Williams also thrives on the defensive side, leading the team with 173 digs while Kasiske trails him by one dig for second on the Raptors.
