Urshela Named HVIAC Player of the Week for Fourth Time

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) has named junior Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) its men's volleyball Player of the Week after the outside hitter led the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team in kills and hitting percentage during the week.

The now four-time Player of the Week continued his strong play for the Bears, finishing with double-digit kills in two out of St. Joseph's three matches. Urshela opened up the week with a 12-kill, 5-dig performance at John Jay to become the first Bear to reach the 500-kill plateau. The junior followed that up with a team-high 13 kills the very next day against borough rival Brooklyn College.

The outside hitter capped off the week with an efficient outing against Medgar Evers, slamming down seven kills while hitting .500 and serving up four aces as St. Joseph's picked up a straight-set win. Urshela finished the week with 2.91 kills per set, 1.00 digs per set and hit an efficient .241.

Urshela earns Player of the Week honors for the seventh time in his career and has now taken home four of the nine weekly accolades given out by the HVIAC.

St. Joseph's (5-11) returns to action this Thursday, April 3rd at 7:30 p.m. as they take on HVIAC foe Sarah Lawrence College on Senior Night. The Bears will celebrate the careers of seniors Iqbal Husain and Javier Bosque
