Urshela Earns HVIAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—For the third time this season, senior Raul Urshela was honored as the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Player of the Week, for the week ending March 22.

The Orlando, Florida native was instrumental during a pair of five-set conference games this past week recording a pair of double-doubles slamming 35 kills, while bringing up 25 digs and stuffing 13 blocks on the defensive end.

Urshela helped the Bears rally from a two-set deficit on the road against Webb last Thursday, falling one block shy of a triple-double with 15 kills, 14 digs and nine blocks. During a five-set marathon with Yeshiva on Tuesday, the senior middle reached 20 kills for the second time this season, also amassing 11 digs, three aces and four blocks.

Urshela currently is ranked second in the conference in kills per set (3.31) and hitting percentage (.216).

The Bears (8-7, 2-1 HVIAC) will return to action on Thursday hosting Clinton Hill rivals Pratt Institute in a key conference matchup looking to regain a share of first place in the league standings. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at The Hill Center with live stats available on SJCBears.com.
