Patrick Dietz Selected as Head Men's Volleyball Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) interim director of athletics Alex Winnicker has announced Patrick Dietz as head men's volleyball coach.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Patrick to the St. Joseph's family," remarked Winnicker. "His leadership skills, along with his proven track record of recruiting and player development at every level of the NCAA will prove invaluable as we work to build a formidable program to compete in the Skyline Conference."

Dietz brings over 15 years of volleyball coaching experience to Clinton Hill—both men and women, from club to collegiate. No stranger to the Skyline Conference, Dietz served for five seasons, four as head men's volleyball coach from 2003-2005 & 2013, at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Over his first stint with the Dolphins, he guided the squad to national prominence, receiving top-15 rankings in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) coaches poll in each of the three seasons, rising as high as No. 11 in 2005 and helped develop two-time All-American Phil Gallagher.

"I would truly like to thank Ms. [Shantey] Hill, [Assistant Vice President and Senior Director of Athletics], Mr. Winnicker and the great staff at St. Joseph's, for bringing me into the fold as a coach, " said Dietz. "It is an honor to join this team and athletics program as it grows during its renaissance."

Currently, the Rockaway native is completing his first season as assistant women's volleyball coach at Division I St. Francis College Brooklyn, helping to develop a squad that has already more than doubled their win total from 2014 under second-year head coach Abra Rummel.

Dietz also served at the helm of the Division II women's volleyball teams at Bloomfield College (2004) and Concordia College (2009-10).

In between his stops at Bloomfield and Concordia, he returned to coach the men's and women's teams at his alma mater, New York City College of Technology. A standout player for the Yellow Jackets, Dietz was a two-time All-CUNYAC and All-NECVA honoree, named NECVA Offensive Player of the Year in 2000 and led the nation in kills per set in both 1999 and 2000.

"I am excited to get the season started and work with the young men - such as Norrin [Martinez], Tommy [Kennedy] and Clyde [Delacruz] - of this team and the administrators of this campus to keep growing the opportunities within the men's volleyball program and across the campus as a whole."

Dietz succeeds Kristin Wulff to become the third head coach in the eight-year history of the men's volleyball program. The Bears will enter the Skyline Conference in 2016, fresh off a 10-10 mark last season in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference—their first 10-win and .500 season in program history.
