LANGHORNE, Pa. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team leveled their opening match at Cairn at one set all, but fell in four sets (25-15, 23-25, 25-16, 25-11) before dropping a straight-set decision to Penn State Behrend (25-9, 25-8, 25-12) on Saturday afternoon.
Seniors Tim Driscoll (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) and Sean Salomons (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) led the Bears (0-4) with eight kills each on the afternoon.
How it Happened vs. Cairn
The Bears (0-4) played tight with the Highlanders (1-1) holding multiple leads, leading as late as 10-9, but the hosts surged late and closed out the frame outscoring the Bears 16-5 to take the opening set.
Both teams remained close in the second but the navy and gray held the lead for nearly the entire set. But it would be the Bears who would pull away at the 10-10 mark, using a 7-2 spurt to build a five-point lead and remained on top for good. Cairn tried to rally late erasing four set points, but a Stephen Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) leveled the match at one set all.
Cairn built early leads in the third and fourth sets and the Bears couldn't recover from the early deficits.
Stephen Eddy and Sean Salomons led the offense with six kills each, Eddy also bringing up 10 kills and Salomons registering a block
Tim Driscoll contributed five kills and a block and Dejon St. Rose-Cuffy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) chipped in four kills and three blocks.
How it Happened vs. Penn State Behrend
The Bears won to the opening point of the match on a Behrend miscue, but the Lions overwhelmed the Bears limiting the offense to just nine kills over the match.
Tim Driscoll paced the Bears with three kills while Sean Salomons and Dejon St. Rose-Cuffy added two kills each. Eight different Lions combined for 28 kills at a .396 clip.

St. Joseph's wraps up their four-game road stand in the home borough traveling to Brooklyn College on Monday (Jan. 28) with first serve set for 7 p.m.
