Bravo Earns Skyline Men’s Volleyball Libero of the Week; Helfant Lands on Honor Roll

NEW YORK — Thanks to his efforts in the first triumph of the 2023 campaign for the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team, junior Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Vocational & Technical) was named the Skyline Conference Libero of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office earlier today.

In last Tuesday's four-set win over neighbors Pratt Institute, Bravo brought up a game-high 20 digs. The total is the most for the Queens native in his two seasons on the squad, eclipsing the 12 against Yeshiva University in 2022. He also dished out a pair of assists in the victory.

Bravo is second in the Skyline with 3.19 digs per set and leads the team with 51 total digs. He also cracks into the team top five in assists.

Bravo is the first Libero of the Week selection in program history and the first Bear to earn a conference weekly honor since current head coach Sean Salomons '19 was the league's Player of the Week in 2019.

Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll following his double-double of 10 kills and as many digs against the Cannoneers, both season highs.

Bravo and the Bears return to The Hill Center for a non-conference tilt with borough foes Medgar Evers on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Riverdale for their conference-opening tri-match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Ramapo College on Saturday, March 4. Live stats and video of all three matches will be available on sjbkathletics.com/live.
