Lady Bears Sweep HVWAC Weekly Honors For Second Straight Week
BROOKLYN, NY – For the second straight week, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team swept Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference weekly accolades as senior Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was named Player & Pitcher of the Week and freshman Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) was named Rookie of the Week for games played from March 26-April 9.
Chiaramonte, a pitcher/outfielder, led the Lady Bears to a 7-0 record over the two week span, and reached several career milestones in the process. The week one Pitcher of the Week recipient compiled a 6-0 record in the circle, with a 0.79 ERA, including three shutouts, and 44 strikeouts. She reached her 50th career win and 500th career strikeout, bettering her school record. At the plate, Chiaramonte batted .600 (15-for-25) collecting a team-leading nine RBI, four runs, one HR, one triple, two doubles and two stolen bases. She also reached milestones at the plate, recording her 100th RBI and 150th hit.
Molinari, a second baseman/catcher, received her first career Rookie of the Week honors. Over the past two weeks, Molinari batted .286 (4-for-15) accumulating six RBI, four runs and a double. Over the doubleheader against Notre Dame, she went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs. Molinari also fielded her positions well recording 19 assists over the stretch and is currently boasts a perfect fielding percentage for the season in 56 chances (28 assists, 28 putouts).
The Lady Bears (11-6) return to action riding an 11 game winning streak hosting HVWAC foes Sarah Lawrence College on Friday, April 13 at Padavan-Preller Field for a doubleheader starting at 4:15 p.m.
