McGowan Tabbed HVIAC Pitcher of the Week; Ferrigno Rookie of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) announced its weekly softball awards earlier today and freshman Jamilynn McGowan (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides) was named Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was named Rookie of the Week after both helped lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a 3-2 record on the week.

McGowan had a spectacular week in the circle for St. Joseph's, going 2-1 with a miniscule 1.42 ERA in 19 2/3 innings, allowing only four earned runs in three starts. The freshman tossed three complete games on the week, including a strong outing at Mount Saint Vincent where she went 7 2/3 innings, surrendering one earned run on seven hits in a narrow 3-2 extra-inning loss.

The freshman came back out on Friday and was dominant against HVIAC foe New Rochelle, allowing only one hit with eight strikeouts in rainy and windy conditions to secure her first collegiate win. McGowan ended the week with a complete game win against Lehman on Sunday to pick up her second triumph of the week. The freshman also helped herself at the plate versus New Rochelle, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ferrigno added on to her impressive start as a Lady Bear, batting .471 (8-for-17) on the week with a team-high seven RBI. The freshman also added two runs and ended the week with a .474 on base percentage and .471 slugging percentage. The now two-time Rookie of the Week went a perfect 3-for-3 against New Rochelle on Friday, driving in three runs. The third baseman concluded the week with a 4-for-7 day at the plate with four RBI in the Lady Bears sweep of Lehman on Sunday.

Also recognized by the conference was junior catcher/second baseman Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) who was named to the honor roll after batting .500 (8-for-16) with five RBI on the week. The one-time Player of the Week had three multi-hit games and finished with a .500 on base percentage and a .562 slugging percentage.

McGowan takes home the Pitcher of the Week honor for the first time in her career and is the first Lady Bear to earn the accolade this season.
