Rossi Named AD3I and HVIAC Player of the Week; Perillo, Robles Tabbed HVIAC Top Pitcher and Rookie

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team rattled off a season-high four wins in a row, freshman Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) was named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Player of the Week, while junior Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) earned HVIAC Pitcher of the Week and junior Briana Robles (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was tabbed HVIAC Rookie of the Week.

Rossi provided the power to the Lady Bears lineup this week, hitting .333 (8-for-24) with three doubles and a home run over a seven-game stretch for St. Joseph's. The freshman knocked in a team-high-tying eight runs and scored five runs of her own.

The outfielder had three multi-hit games, including a career day at York on Wednesday as she went 3-for-7 with her first career homer, five RBI and two runs scored. Rossi ended the week with a .583 slugging percentage and now leads the team with 14 RBI on the season.

Perillo picked up three of the Lady Bears four wins in the circle this week compiling a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings with four complete games. The junior threw a five-inning, complete game shutout at York on Wednesday, allowing only three hits. Perillo also contributed at the plate, hitting .263 (5-for-19) with five runs scored and two RBI.

Robles had her best week as a Lady Bear, hitting .389 (7-for-18) with a team-high-tying eight RBI along with six runs scored. The junior finished with a hit in five of St. Joseph's seven games and recorded an RBI in six games. Robles had her best day of the season on Wednesday going 3-for-6 with four runs scored and three RBI during a sweep of York.

All three players earn accolades for the first time this season with Rossi and Robles gaining recognition for the first time in their careers. Rossi becomes first Lady Bear to receive weekly accolade from AD3I.

Rossi joins junior Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) as the lone winners of the HVIAC Player of the Week this season for St. Joseph's, while Perillo follows freshman Jamilynn McGowan (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides) who won top pitcher earlier in the season. Robles becomes third different Lady Bear to take home Rookie of the Week after Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) won it twice and Geena Campisi (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) brought home the hardware last week.

St. Joseph's (9-13) returns to the field on Thursday, April 24th for a doubleheader against borough rival Brooklyn College at Preller at 4 p.m.
