Wainwright Selected as Skyline Softball Player of the Week

NEW YORK — Recognizing a week where she batted .600 and accounted for nine runs, freshman Amber Wainwright (Taunton, Mass./Taunton) has been selected as the Skyline Conference Softball Player of the Week announced by the league office earlier today.

Wainwright is the first Bear to be honored as the Player of the Week since joining the conference last season.

The rookie first baseman batted a team-leading 9-for-15 on the week with nine RBI and six runs scored. She slugged .867, roping a pair of doubles and one triple, and stole one base.

Over a convincing doubleheader sweep of Brooklyn College last Thursday, Wainwright went 6-for-8 with seven RBI. She capped off the 3-1 week for the Bears with a 2-for-3 effort and two RBI as the SJC rallied to split with the College of Mount Saint Vincent yesterday in their league opener.

Wainwright leads the team with 19 hits and 15 RBI on the season and is one of two Bears—along with Kristin Ferrigno—to hit successfully in all 10 games this season.

St. Joseph's (7-3, 1-1) will resume Skyline Conference play heading north to face defending champion and preseason favorite Mount Saint Mary College (11-7, 6-0) tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Chester, N.Y.
