Mahoney and Wainwright Selected as Skyline Softball Pitcher and Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK — Leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a 4-0 record last week, sophomore Victoria Mahoney (Allenwood, N.J./Saint John Vianney) was named Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week and freshman Amber Wainwright (Taunton, Mass./Taunton) was selected Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office earlier today.

Mahoney compiled a 3-0 record in the circle with a 1.75 earned run average, striking out 16, walking just one, and allowing four hits over eight innings of work. In the doubleheader sweep of Lehman, she struck out seven in a game one start and earned the victory in relief in the finale fanning five more in two scoreless innings.

Wainwright has been the hottest hitter for the Bears squad and batted .583 (7-for-12) and slugged .667 on the week. Assembling multi-RBI efforts in all four games last week, she drove in 10 runs, scored nine times, belted a double, stole a base and walked four times.

The league honors Wainwright for the second time in three weeks after selecting her as Player of the Week on April 3. Mahoney receives the accolade for the first time this season.

Looking to qualify for their first Skyline Conference Championship, the Bears (14-8, 4-6) continue league play at sibling rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Friday, April 21 for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at the SJC Outdoor Complex in Patchogue, N.Y.
