Softball Signs Phoenix Scott Through Team IMPACT

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) head softball coach Danielle Fazzolare announced a new team member, signing 10-year-old Phoenix Scott through Team IMPACT. 

"The St. Joseph's softball team is extremely excited to add Phoenix to our team," remarked Fazzolare. She added "we pride ourselves in what it takes to be a Bear: to believe, earn, appreciate, respect, and serve."

Phoenix, who was diagnosed with Leukemia, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Monday, March 6, at The Hill Center. She will participate in many activities with the team including games, practices, and other team events. 

Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multi-year program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience. 

"Team IMPACT is excited to see Phoenix officially join the Bears," said Danielle Hardee, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to work alongside St. Joseph's Brooklyn, their athletic department, and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."

Fazzolare concluded "I know Phoenix will continue to have a positive impact on this team as we go through this season and future seasons."

St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) has worked with Team IMPACT for the past year, matching two children across its men's basketball and women's softball programs.
