Drew Offense Too Much For Softball

MADISON, N.J. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team suffered a pair of defeats, 1-9 and 0-9, to Drew University on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened (Game 1)

Nicole Trani's (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) triple found the right-center field gap, escaping past the right fielder, to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage in the first inning. A scoreless second inning followed before the Rangers took the lead with a two-run third. A four-spot in the home half of the fourth, lighted by a three-run home run, increased the gap to 6-1, before sealing the contest, 9-1.

How it Happened (Game 2)

Drew exploded for nine runs in the first inning, enough to see out the sweep of the Bears. Of the three hits for SJBK, Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) had the lone extra-base hit, a double down the left field line in their end of the opening frame.

For the Bears (Game 1)

  • Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) scored the lone run of the day on Trani's triple.

  • Trani, Van Der Kamp, and Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, La./Belle Chasse) all went 1-for-3.

  • Despite the loss, pitcher Brooke Horn (Lakeside, Calif./El Capitan) stuck out four batters in four innings of work.

For the Bears (Game 2)

  • Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) and Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif/Mission Hills) were the only other Bears to find the hit column.

  • In the circle, Poppett was dealt the defeat.

  • Horn struck out four additional batters in relief, finishing the day with 8 K's.
