Softball Flies Past St. Joseph’s Long Island in Friday Afternoon Sweep

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team earned a pair of victories, 6-0 and 16-1, against St. Joseph's Long Island on Friday afternoon from the SJLI Outdoor Field Complex.

How it Happened (Game 1)

The Bears scored three runs in the first two innings, courtesy of RBI singles by Audrey Scott (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney) and Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills). In the seventh inning, two runs were conceded by Long Island due to a defensive error, followed by another RBI single from Scott, extending the Bears' lead to 6-0.

In the circle, rookie Brooke Horn (Lakeside, Calif./El Capitan) tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out four and walking just one batter.

How it Happened (Game 2)

Logreco doubled to left to plate the SJBK leadoff bats in the first. A bases-loaded walk gave the Bears a 3-0 lead, increasing to 5-0 by the end of the frame. The lead grew to 10-1 after the second inning with the Golden Eagles scoring their lone run of the day.

Sandwiched between a one-run third and fifth, the navy and gray scored four in the fourth thanks to two-RBI doubles from Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) and Kristen Oddo (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) en route to a 16-1 triumph.

For the Bears (Game 1)

  • Logreco went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.

  • Scott had 2 RBI as she went 2-for-4.

  • Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) scored a run while going 2-for-4 at the plate.

  • Gomez and Maeve McKeon (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) each had 1-for-4 games at the plate and stole a base.

  • Horn tossed her fourth shutout of the season.

For the Bears (Game 2)

  • Gomez finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of RBI.

  • Van Der Kamp and Emily Burroughs (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) each went 3-for-4, scoring a combined two runs and driving in three.

  • Logreco, McKeon, and Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) all had two hits.

  • Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, La./Belle Chasse) also hurled a complete game, striking out four and walking just one. She improves to 6-2.

  • The Bears sweep of the Golden Eagles marks their fourth-consecutive win against their sibling school, the longest streak for Brooklyn in the series history.
