No. 3 Softball Drops Close Affair to No. 2 Farmingdale State; Bears Face No. 4 Mount Saint Mary in Friday Elimination Game

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The No. 3 St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 2 Farmingdale State College on Thursday afternoon from Manhattanville Field as part of the second round of the 2023 Skyline Conference Softball Championship.

How it Happened

A lead-off single from Rams left fielder Jenna Giliberti, followed by steals of second and third base, placed her 60 feet from scoring with one out in the bottom of the first inning. She scored on a single up the middle later in the stanza.

A scoreless second was followed by the Bears drawing the game level in the third. Arianna Heinsch (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) saw her fly ball dropped, allowing Audrey Scott (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney) to score.

However, FSC responded in the bottom half of the frame with a two-out RBI single to score the go-ahead run. The Bears would see runners on the base paths but could not inflict further damage, suffering the one-run defeat.

For the Bears

  • Emily Burroughs (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) led the Bears' bats in a 2-for-3 showing.

  • Scott, along with Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) and Nicole Trani (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic), went 1-for-3.

  • Brooke Horn (Lakeside, Calif./El Capitan) struck out seven, one more than her counterpart, and tossed six innings. She drops to 12-5 on the season.
