Women’s Basketball Overpowered by Apprentice

BROOKLYN, NY - Joanna Marciniec (Brooklyn, NY/Baruch) turned in her first career double-double in an 84-54 loss to USCAA rival Apprentice School in front of a crowd of over two hundred in the first game of the Family & Friends Appreciation Day Doubleheader at Brooklyn Technical High School on Saturday.

St. Joseph's offensive problems continued, the Lady Bears shooting only 15 percent in the opening half going for a stretch of 12 minutes without hitting a field goal.  The quicker and more physical Lady Builder team outrebounded the Lady Bears 37-26 and committed 15 more turnovers, but St. Joseph's was able to score only two points off the Apprentice miscues and trailed 40-18 at half.

The Lady Bears found some offensive rhythm in the second half improving to 33 percent shooting and connecting on four 3-pointers, however Apprentice shot over 50 percent for the half and St. Joseph's was never able to cut the deficit under 20 points.  For the game, the St. Joseph's missed more shots (66) than Apprentice attempted (65).

Marciniec, starting in only her fourth game this season, finished with 11 points and grabbed a team-high 10 boards.  Ashley McQuillan(Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) also tallied 11 points and had five rebounds in her second game back   Valleri West led Apprentice with a career-high 31 points.  Rahshann Lewter added 16 points.

St. Joseph's extends their losing streak to nine and sit at 6-13.  This is their first game against a USCAA opponent this season.  Apprentice improves to 8-6.  The Lady Bears have a day off and return to action across the Hudson where they face New Jersey City University.
