Lady Bears Down New Rochelle Earning Spot in HVWAC Title Game

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Eleven different Lady Bears registered a field goal as the St. Joseph's College women's basketball team earned a spot in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference championship game defeating College of New Rochelle 59-28 on Saturday night. 

Sophomores Joanne Crimeni (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Ford) and Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch) scored eight points each to lead the Lady Bears who shot 45 percent for the contest.  Stephanie Quick (Howard Beach, NY/Stella Maris), Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) added six points each.

Elizabeth Johnston, six-time HVWAC Rookie of the Week, scored a game-high 13 points to lead New Rochelle (1-21, 0-3 HVWAC).  Alianna Cordova pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and swiped four steals, both game-highs.

St. Joseph's opened on 12-1 run before New Rochelle made their only field goal of the half at the 11:28 mark.  The Lady Bears led the Blue Angels 35-4 at the intermission and maintained their lead until the final buzzer.

The Lady Bears passed the ball effectively – all but three of the 24 St. Joseph's field goals came from an assist.

St. Joseph's will try to capture their first HVWAC title since 2006, they face #2 Albany College of Pharmacy who defeated #3 Yeshiva 77-61 in the other semifinal.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the College of New Rochelle Wellness Center.
