Lady Bears Cruise Past Christendom

FRONT ROYAL, VA – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team held the Christendom College Crusaders to seven first-half points and cruised to a 56-20 victory in a USCAA matchup on Saturday afternoon at Crusader Gymnasium. 

St. Joseph's (13-11, 3-0 HVWAC) utilized a balanced attack with all 12 Lady Bears recording at least one field goal and no Lady Bear finishing with in double figures.  Junior forward Allison Kavanagh (Woodhaven, NY/Mary Louis) led the charge for St. Joseph's scoring a game-high tying eight points, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds and dishing out four assists.  Junior forward Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) grabbed a career-high seven caroms and added four points.  Guards Stephanie Quick (Howard Beach, NY/Stella Maris) and Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) scored seven points each and Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch) chipped in six.  Senior center Julia Serewko (Woodside, NY/Mary Louis) swatted away five shots.

Emily Baldwin led Christendom (2-8) tallying eight points with nine rebounds and Jane Snyder added five points for the Crusaders who made only nine field goals for the contest shooting 16 percent from the field.

St. Joseph's utilized a 16-0 run in the first half over an eight minute span where the Crusaders went scoreless building a 25-4 advantage which would never be challenged.

This is the Lady Bears' second victory over Christendom this season, with the two teams meeting in the Wilson College Tip-Off Tournament and St. Joseph's winning 50-27.  St. Joseph's travels to Newport News, VA to conclude regular season play with a key USCAA matchup on Sunday, February 14 against eighth-ranked The Apprentice School in a game that could determine whether the Lady Bears will earn a berth in the USCAA National Tournament.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and fans can follow the gamecast live on www.sjcbears.com.
