McQuillan Tabbed USCAA Player of the Week, Doran HVWAC Rookie of the Week
NEW YORK, NY – In announcements released earlier this week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC), sophomore Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) received Player of the Week honors from both associations, while freshman Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) received Rookie of the Week honors from the HVWAC for games ending February 14, 2010.
McQuillan led St. Joseph's College to a 2-1 record against USCAA competition on the week. In a win over #15 Briarcliffe, the sophomore guard scored 26 points on 67 percent shooting (10-for-15) and swiped six steals and dished out four assists. She saw very limited time in a win over Christendom, but came out firing in the one-point loss to #8 Apprentice on the road. McQuillan shot 50 percent from behind the arc, draining six three-pointers and scored 27 points. In the games against ranked opponents on the week, McQuillan averaged 26.5 points, shot 546 from the floor (19-for-35) and .556 from behind the arc (10-for-18). It is the second time this season McQuillan has received the honor.
Doran fell one point shy of her first career double-double against Briarcliffe, amassing 11 rebounds and nine points. For the week, the freshman forward averaged 6.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent (6-for-11) from the floor. It is her first time receiving the honor.
