Doran Scores Career High 21, But Lady Bears Can't Overcome Poor Shooting in Loss to Lancaster Bible

BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored a career-high 21 points, but a poor first half shooting performance dug the St. Joseph's College women's basketball team a hole they couldn't get out of, falling 69-62 to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday night.

Both squads wore special pink warm-ups and donned pink accessories as part of the SJC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee "Bearing a Cure" initiative for breast cancer awareness.

A trifecta by Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) on St. Joseph's third possession would give the Lady Bears their only lead of the game, 4-3. St. Joseph's shot a paltry 16 percent (7-for-43) in the half while Lancaster Bible shot 48 percent (12-for-25) to take a 37-25 lead into the lockers despite committing 19 miscues in the frame.

In the second stanza, the Lady Bears improved their efficiency to 35 percent shooting, but kept pace with the Chargers. St. Joseph's managed to get some momentum late in the half with a 7-1 run over a 44 second span to cut the deficit to five, 56-51, at the 4:05 mark but that would be the closest the Lady Bears would come as Lancaster pushed the lead back to 12 points with just over a minute remaining.

St. Joseph's finished with 21-of-83 shooting (25.3%), missing more shots than the Chargers attempted (53). The Lady Bears also managed to connect on only two three-pointers (2-for-19). Lancaster Bible also committed more than twice as many miscues as the Lady Bears (35-16) with St. Joseph's coming up with 22 thefts, their third time this season with 20 or more steals.

The majority of Doran's career-high game came from the charity stripe where she shot 13-for-18. Doran also swiped a game-high seven steals and secured seven caroms while committing no turnovers. Following a career-high 38 point outburst against Briarcliffe, Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) scored 18 points and had six steals. Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) had a near double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Mangan also finished with eight points.

Lancaster Bible (11-13) placed four Chargers in double-figures led by Lucy McClaine's 18 points with 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Lauren Heliger contributed 15 points. Nicole Karschner and Emily Lloyd each recorded double-doubles, scoring 12 points each and grabbing 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

St. Joseph's (9-15) will look to snap a three-game skid wrapping up the regular season at home on Tuesday, February 15 hosting John Jay at Brooklyn Technical High School. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. and the Lady Bears will celebrate Senior Night, recognizing the final home games for Tara Gleason (Woodside, NY/Stella Maris), Allison Kavanagh (Woodhaven, NY/Mary Louis) and Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney).
