Lady Bears Offense Struggles in Loss to Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team had their worst shooting effort of the season and failed to break the 50 point mark for only the third time this season, falling 77-48 to defending Skyline Conference champions Farmingdale State College.

Both teams struggled to connect in the early moments, with both teams combining for only 12 points after six-and-a-half minutes of play and Farmingdale holding a slim 8-4 advantage. The Rams found their rhythm however connecting on 43 percent from the field in the half, and gradually pulled away from the Lady Bears. Farmingdale, who never trailed in the contest, led by as many as 19 with 1:54 left in the half, before carrying a 40-26 advantage at the intermission.

The second half would be all Farmingdale as they scored the first six points of the frame to extend their lead to 20 and St. Joseph's was unable to bring the deficit any closer for the remainder of the game.

In addition to shooting a season-worst 24.2 percent, the Lady Bears committed 26 turnovers, which led to 29 Farmingdale points. St. Joseph's also struggled from the charity stripe, making only 47.6 percent of their freebies, the third time this season the team has failed to sink half their free throw attempts.

Farmingdale State evens the all-time series, with St. Joseph's capturing the only meeting between the two schools nearly 10 years ago.

Sophomore Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led St. Joseph's with 12 points and five rebounds. Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) chipped in 10 points and also grabbed five rebounds. Freshman Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) pulled down a game-high 11 boards, the second time this season finishing with 10 or more rebounds.

Farmingdale State (10-4, 7-2 Skyline) was led by Nikita Green who tallied a game-high 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Mariel Rozon contributed 11 points and Kayla Koch added nine.

St. Joseph's (6-10, 1-0 HVWAC) will look to rebound playing seven of their final nine games at home. The Lady Bears host Albertus Magnus College on Thursday, January 20 at Brooklyn Technical High School with action commencing at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action webcast live on www.sjcbears.com.
