Lady Bears Wrap Pacific Northwest Trip with Loss to Puget Sound

TACOMA, WA – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team concluded their Pacific Northwest swing with a 93-49 loss to the University of Puget Sound at the Memorial Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

St. Joseph's (0-4) was led by Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) for the third straight game with 11 points who was saddled with foul trouble for most of the second half. Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) added nine points on 4-of-5 shooting. Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) chipped in eight points.

Puget Sound (3-1) produced a balanced attack, placing four Loggers in double-figures, led by Kelsey McKinnis who netted 16 points and Linday Layland who added 15 points. Sarah Stewart grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Loggers who utilized their size advantage to win battle of the boards, 68-33.

A McKinnis lapup off the opening tip-off gave Puget Sound the lead and they never turned back racing out to an 18-1 lead over the first five minutes of play. The Loggers pressure defense also held the Lady Bears without a field goal for seven minutes and forced 13 first half turnovers which they converted into 25 points.

Despite the lopsided score and the slow start, the Lady Bears had their best shooting effort of the trip, shooting 33 percent from the floor including 5-for-15 from behind the arc.

The Lady Bears return home to open their home slate, hosting former HVWAC rival College of St. Elizabeth at Brooklyn Technical High School on Tuesday, November 29th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
