Lady Bears Fall to Pacific Lutheran

PARKLAND, WA – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team fell to the Pacific Lutheran University, 77-45, on Friday afternoon at the Olsen Auditorium in the second game of their Pacific Northwest trip.

St. Joseph's (0-3) was led by Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) who had 13 points, with 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line, and three rebounds. Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) added six points each.  Kristin Binckes (Brooklyn, NY/St. Savior) grabbed a team-high six rebounds to go along with four points.

Pacific Lutheran (2-0) was led by Samantha Potter's double-double with 16 points, and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Shelly Kilcup and Katelyn Smith each chipped in 10 points. Kilcup also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.

The Lady Bears fell behind early as they struggled from the floor, managing only two field goals over the first 10 minutes of the opening half, trailing by as many as 16 in the opening frame. An Ashja Hopkins layup with 33 seconds left cut the deficit to 10 points before trailing 32-20 at the intermission.

In the second stanza, the Lady Bears would not find the shooting touch connecting at a 23 percent rate and the Lutes remained steady hitting 40 percent of their shots and extended their lead throughout the period.

The Lutes held a size advantage over the Lady Bears and maintained a 62-38 rebounding edge that led to 27 second chance points. The Lutes also had six blocked shots.

St. Joseph's wraps up their Pacific Northwest swing in search of their first win of the season against University of Puget Sound on Saturday, November 26.
