Lady Bears Level Record in Wire-to-Wire Triumph Over King's

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Eleven different Lady Bears recorded a field goal as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team took a 62-26 wire-to-wire victory over The King's College (N.Y.) in a USCAA matchup on Monday evening at St. Francis College.

The Lady Bears (3-3) extend their win streak to three games and reach the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Sophomore Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) led all scorers dropping 13 points in 16 minutes of action on 5-of-9 shooting. Retas filled out the box score with six boards, three assists, three steals and a block.

Senior Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) netted in nine points, draining 3-for-3 from behind the arc, also dishing out three assists and swiping three steals. Sophomore Kristin D'Chiutiis (Brooklyn, NY/Scholars Academy) added seven points and pulled down four rebounds.

Sophomore Taylor Raccuglia (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and junior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) contributed six points each coming off the bench, Raccuglia also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Jennifer Miller (Ozone Park, NY/St. John's Prep) chipped in five points to go along with six rebounds and three blocks.

The King's College (2-4) was led by Sophie Simunek who posted a near double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Elizabeth Ferguson grabbed a game-high 11 boards.

St. Joseph's jumped out to a 19-0 lead holding the Lady Lions scoreless over the first 12 minutes of action and carried a 33-10 lead into intermission.

The Lady Lions were held to just 18 percent (10-of-55) and couldn't cut into the Lady Bears advantage in the second half.  St. Joseph's maintained a 48-38 advantage on the glass and dished out 16 assists on their 23 field goals.

St. Joseph's returns to the court on Friday, December 7th for the highly anticipated sibling rivalry game against St. Joseph's College (Long Island). The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. at the Danzi Athletic Center, the second game of the annual tripleheader featuring women's swimming at 3 p.m. and men's basketball at 8 p.m.

A free fan bus will be available for all SJC students, faculty and staff departing at 3 p.m. in front of Tuohy Hall with all fans receiving a commemorative t-shirt. Reserve a seat on the bus in the student life suite ($5 deposit required).
