Samantha Retas Named USCAA and AD3I Player of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was tabbed United States Collegiate Athletic Association and Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week after helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Lady Bears to a 2-1 mark over the past week.

The sophomore forward averaged 11.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per game as the Lady Bears defeated Cedar Crest and York over the past week. Retas shot an efficient 45 percent from the field (14-of-31) and recorded a double-double in St. Joseph's 24-point win against York scoring 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

The sophomore was also named to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) honor roll for her play over the three game stretch.

The awards are the first for a Lady Bear this season and are the first for Retas as a member of St. Joseph's. Last season the forward was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week last year as a member of Division II Wilmington University Wildcats.

The Lady Bears return to the court in the much anticipated sibling rivalry game against St. Joseph's (L.I.) on Friday, December 7th with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. in Patchogue.
