Retas Earns D3Hoops, AD3I & HVWAC Weekly Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week while also receiving the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Player of the Week honors after recording two double-doubles and leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team to a 1-1 week.

The sophomore forward had a monster week recording her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season – a category she currently ranks sixth in Division III. Retas averaged 27.0 points on 50 percent shooting from the field (21-of-42) and 16.5 rebounds while swatting away 3.5 shots a game during the last week.

Retas opened her week with career hights of 31 points and four blocks while bringing down 15 rebounds in a 70-65 victory over Purchase. She followed that up with 23 points and a career-high-tying 18 caroms in a 76-71 loss to Albertus Magnus. Retas has scored 20-plus points in 6-of-the-last-7 games.

The D3Hoops honor is the first for a Lady Bear in program history. Retas adds to a growing list of Player of the Week accolades, now a four-time AD3I, two-time HVWAC and one-time USCAA recipient.

St. Joseph's (6-7) continues their five game home stand with a USCAA matchup against rivals No. 17 Briarcliffe College on Wednesday, January 9th at Brooklyn Technical High School with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
