Mangan Receives HVWAC Player of the Week Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Recognizing her outstanding performance on the hardwood in helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team to a 1-1 mark, Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's Academy) has been named Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week.

The senior guard tallied back-to-back 19-point performances and was the leading scorer during the week for the Lady Bears. She opened her week with a game-high-tying 19 points in a loss to Briarcliffe and repeated the output in a victory over Apprentice, finishing the week shooting 44 percent from the field (14-of-32), which included seven three-pointers. Mangan also stuffed the stat sheet with 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. The senior is currently averaging a career-high 11.9 ppg and has made a career-high 37 treys while shooting a career-best 37 percent from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was recognized by the conference earning honor roll recognition after notching her ninth double-double of the season tallying 23 points and 12 rebounds against the Apprentice School. During the week, Retas averaged 16.0 points and 14.5 rebounds.

The HVWAC accolade is the second for Mangan in her career after she swept the USCAA, AD3I, and HVWAC awards earlier in the season. The senior is the second Lady Bear to be recognized this season, with Retas having been a four-time AD3I, two-time HVWAC and one-time USCAA Player of the Week recipient while also earning the first D3Hoops Team of the Week honor in program history.

St. Joseph's (9-8) returns to action on Tuesday, January 22 facing cross-borough rivals Brooklyn College in a non-conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
