Retas Earns Fifth AD3I Weekly Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) has earned the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week after helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team to a 1-1 record over the past week.

Retas recorded her 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season (No. 8 in Division III) setting a new single-game record with 20 rebounds in a win over Berkeley College while also adding 12 points. In the Lady Bears loss to Brooklyn College, Retas scored 11 points while bringing down 10 rebounds and rejecting three shots. On the week, the sophomore averaged 12.0 points on 8-of-15 shooting (53.3%), with 15.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals.

The forward is currently averaging a double-double on the season pouring in 15.4 points per game while corralling 11.5 caroms per night a figure that ranks her 18th in the nation.  Retas is shooting an efficient 48% from the field and has led the team in scoring ten times and rebounding 15 times this season.

The weekly honor from AD3I is the fifth earned by the sophomore who was named AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month for December.  Retas and Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) are the lone recipients of the AD3I Player of the Week accolade for the Lady Bears with Mangan having won it in early January.

Retas and the Lady Bears return to the hardwood tonight hosting Vaughn College in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Confernece tilt starting at 7:30 p.m.
