Lady Bears Cruise Past Vaughn Behind Balanced Team Effort

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – All 11 Lady Bears tallied a field goal and three Lady Bears finished in double figure scoring as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team cruised to a 70-30 triumph over Vaughn College on Tuesday night at Brooklyn Technical High School.

The Lady Bears (11-9, 2-0 HVWAC) win their second straight Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference game while the Warriors (0-8, 0-4) produced their highest offensive output this season.

St. Joseph's was paced by senior Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) who recorded her first career double-double by way of 12 points and 12 rebounds, her 12 boards also a career high. Sophomore Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and freshman Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) each scored 10 points each, the freshman notching a career best.

Senior Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's Academy) and junior Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) added seven points each.

Vaughn was led by Rochelle Brown who posted game-high 14 points, which included four three-pointers and four thefts. Melissa Jastillana registered a double-double with 12 points and game-high 13 rebounds.

After a Brown three-pointer gave the Warriors an early 3-2 lead, the Lady Bears rolled off 11 straight points to take a double-digit advantage they wouldn't relinquish. The Lady Bears carried a 39-13 lead into the lockers after a blistering 55 percent connect rate (17-of-31), which included no three-point attempts.

All 11 players logged at least 15 minutes of action with bench scoring accounting for 39 points. The Lady Bears finished with 49 percent shooting (32-of-65) for the second straight game and the team dished out a season-best 27 assists, which ranked third all-time.

St. Joseph's continues a four-game stretch of HVWAC contests returning to action tomorrow, January 30th to face Yeshiva University at Baruch College tipping off at 8 p.m.
