Retas Named USCAA First-Team All-American; Three Earn All-Academic Accolades

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – Recognizing their outstanding performance on the hardwood and in the classroom, sophomore Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) has been named United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) First-Team All-American and seniors Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy), Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) and Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) have been named to the National All-Academic Team.

Retas becomes the first Lady Bear to be named First-Team All-American since assistant coach Annamarie Ciorciari received the honor in 2006. In her first season as a Lady Bear, Retas recorded 13 double-doubles and led the team in scoring (13.0 ppg), rebounding (10.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (45.1%) for the entire season and was a two-time USCAA Player of the Week recipient. The forward was No. 7 in rebounding, No. 18 in the USCAA in scoring and No. 22 in field goal percentage. The sophomore scored a career-high 31 points against Purchase going 12-of-17 from the field.

Doran concludes her career having made 25 starts and averaging 7.3 points per game, fifth-best on the team. The forward was second on the team bringing down 7.5 rebounds and dishing out 2.5 assists. The senior had the most assists by a non-guard in school history with eight against Purchase and Briarcliffe. Doran collected her 11th and final double-double of her career on senior night in the Lady Bears win over Yeshiva scoring 13 points while securing 14 caroms.

Mangan played in all 27 games making 26 starts and averaged a career-high 11.1 points in her final season with the Lady Bears. The guard was a deep threat for St. Joseph's making a career-high 51 trifectas while shooting 32 percent from beyond the arc. Mangan concluded her career with a 30-point performance on senior night against Yeshiva going 11-of-21 from the field including 6-of-11 from downtown. The senior was named USCAA Player of the Week on January 2nd after draining a school-record-tying seven three pointers and scored 27 points in win against Pomona-Pitzer.

Marino started three games and picked up her first career double-double scoring 12 points while corralling 12 rebounds in St. Joseph's win over Vaughn.

Doran receives All-Academic honors for the third-straight year, Marino earns her second nod, while Mangan is named All-Academic for the first time in her career.
