Retas Receives AD3I and HVIAC Player of the Week Honors and D3Hoops Team of the Week Distinction; Marino Named HVIAC Rookie of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—For their efforts last week in the victory over sibling rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island), St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) senior Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) has been named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) and Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Women's Basketball Player of the Week and named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week while freshman Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) has been named HVIAC Rookie of the Week as announced by the league offices earlier this week.

Retas was two blocks shy of a triple double, tallying 14 points, 17 rebounds and swatting eight blocks for her fifth double-double of the season in leading the Lady Bears to a 69-58 victory rival Golden Eagles. The senior's Lady Bear record eight rejections also helped set a single-game team record of 13 blocks.

The freshman Marino shot 6-of-10 from the floor and scored 13 points for her fifth straight game in double figures this season as the Lady Bears captured the annual East vs. West rivalry matchup for the second consecutive year.

This is Retas' second time receiving the AD3I award this season—seventh in her career—and the second time in her career being honored by D3Hoops.com.

This is the first time the HVIAC has honored both Retas and Marino this season.

The Lady Bears (4-4) will look to enter 2015 above .500 closing out the calendar year with a non-conference road game at City College of New York on Saturday, December 27th at noon. Live stats are available on SJCBears.com
