Marino Garners HVIAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – For her outstanding performance on the court last week, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) women's basketball Rookie of the Week.

This is Marino's fifth weekly accolade over her first season in a St. Joseph's uniform, and the fourth time the HVIAC has honored Marino for Rookie of the Week this season.

Marino continues her strong rookie campaign averaging 15.5 points per game, while adding 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in two victories for the Lady Bears (11-7), who have now won four straight games. She shot a blistering 76.5 percent from the field over both games.

The freshman guard tallied 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists in a victory over Medgar Evers on Wednesday. She then followed it up with 15 points along with five boards, six assists and four steals as they defeated Valley Forge on Saturday.

The Lady Bears, who moved into first place in the HVIAC last night, will return to action when they take on Yeshiva on the road in a conference matchup on Thursday night in New Rochelle.
