Women's Basketball Face Tough Battle Against Borough Rival Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team (14-8) will seek to bounce back from their first loss in eight games when they head on the road to face borough rival Brooklyn College Wednesday night at the West Quad Center. Tip time for the game is at 6:00 p.m.

Lady Bears Last Time Out

The Lady Bears battled back in the second half, but could not come complete the comeback as they were defeated by John Jay, 67-62, Sunday afternoon at the Hill Center.

Samantha Retas recorded her 11th double-double on the season. The senior tallied a game-high 18 points, including three triples, and 15 rebounds in a losing effort. Destiny Marino added 11 points along with eight boards, eight assists and four steals.

Kristin Ferrigno grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds to go with four points, while Taylor Raccuglia scored nine points and four rebounds.

Protect This House

St. Joseph's continues to be one of the toughest defenses to play against in all of NCAA Division III. The team is tops in Division III with an average of 35 defensive rebounds per contest. The Lady Bears also are ranked third overall holding opponents to just 29.8% shooting from the floor.

In the Dog House

Brooklyn College is led by senior Megan Campbell, who averages 14.9 points per game, which is ranked sixth in the CUNYAC. She is also tops the Bulldogs and is seventh in the conference with 9.9 rebounds per game. She has scored 20 or more points in six games this season.

Nicole Francomano leads the CUNYAC with 6.0 assists per game to go along with 11.0 points (third on the team) and 4.2 rebounds. Vanessa D'Ambrosi scores 12.6 points per game, placing her second on the team while also securing 5.9 boards.

Brooklyn Last Time Out

Brooklyn rallied back from a second-half deficit as they defeated CUNYAC foe Hunter College on the road for their eighth consecutive win, 64-56, Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Megan Campbell top the Bulldogs with a team-high 21 points, to go with nine rebounds. Nicole Francomano finished with 20 points, while Vanessa D'Ambrosi added 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Bears travel upstate to the capital of New York to face off with HVIAC foe Albany Pharmacy on Saturday, February 14th as part of a doubleheader with men's team. Tip time for the women's game is at 1:00 p.m.
