Porcasi Claims Skyline Rookie of the Week Accolades; Marino Named to Honor Roll

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Recognizing a three-game week where she averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman guard Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) was named the Skyline Conference women's basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 13, the league office announced today.

Porcasi started the week with a team-high-tying 21 points leading the Lady Bears past sibling rivals SJC Long Island for their first win of the season. In the victory, the freshman shot 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from behind-the-arc. Porcasi followed it up with 18 points and seven boards at home in a losing effort to Farmingdale, registering her fifth straight game in double figures.

On the week, Porcasi shot 45 percent from the field (14-31) draining seven three-pointers at a 54 percent clip and sank 86 percent (12-14) of her free throw attempts. At 12.1 points per game, she currently ranks ninth in scoring in the conference and ranks third in free throw percentage sinking 86 percent (36-42) of her freebies.

Also recognized by the conference in their weekly honors is sophomore Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) who was named to the league honor roll for the second time this season. The one-time player of the week scored a career-high 32 points on the road against Hunter yesterday and currently ranks third in the conference with 17.8 points per outing.

Porcasi and the Lady Bears will host long-time rivals Yeshiva University meeting for the first time in Skyline play tonight at 8:30 p.m. at home at The Hill Center in their final game of the calendar year. Live stats and video will be available on SJCBears.com.
