Marino Garners All-Skyline Second-Team Honors For Second Straight Season

NEW YORK — For the second straight season, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) junior Destiny Marino (Howard Beach, N.Y./Christ the King) has been named to the 2016-17 Skyline Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference Second Team announced by the league office Monday morning.

Behind her Skyline-leading 17.0 points per game, Marino helped the Bears to a 9-16 mark overall and 7-11 in league play—a two-win improvement in the second season in the league and second under Head Coach Tom Flahive.

Scoring in double figures in all but three games this season, the junior became the 10th Bear in team history to score 1,000 career points—reaching the milestone in 65 games on January 4th versus Old Westbury—and moved into 5th on the all-time scoring list, currently with 1,230 points.

A five-time Skyline weekly honor roll selection this season, Marino finished seven games with 20-or-more points, tallying a season-high 27 against St. Joseph's (Long Island) on February 16. She also finished second in the league and in the top 50 in Division III in free throws made (110) and attempted (156).

Marino has received all-conference honors in all three seasons, collecting Skyline honors twice and Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference her freshman campaign. She is the third Bear to receive All-Skyline honors for the 2016-17 season, joining Cesar Oviedo (men's soccer, second team) and Denise Trerotola (women's tennis, first team).
