Five in Double Figures Sees Women’s Basketball Roll Past Farmingdale State

 

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Grace Kennedy's (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) 22 points led a Bears (5-6, 3-4) quintet in double figures, propelling the St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's basketball team to an 82-43 victory over Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center.

Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and Aaniya Telford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) each flirted with triple-doubles on the day behind respective efforts of 12 points, 12 rebounds, and eight blocks and 11 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) dropped 15 points while Destiny Hurt (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) had 14 to round out the five in double-digit scoring.

How it Happened

A 13-0 run to begin the game set the tone for the quarter with Telford netting six points in the stretch. Three-pointers from Kennedy and Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) paced the SJBK to a 26-7 opening period.

The Rams' (3-10, 2-6) managed to cut their deficit to 12, 36-24, by the end of the second stanza behind a combined 13 points from Isabella Greenwald and Victoria Kantzian.

Tiffany Sosa brought the visitors' deficit to 10 to begin the third quarter, the closest they came to the Bears. Kennedy's continued sharp shooting kept Farmingdale State at bay, taking a 52-40 advantage into the fourth.

After trading the first three points of the closing period, the navy and gray scored the next 28 unanswered to seal their third Skyline Conference victory. Donovan poured in nine points in the stanza while Kiley and Hurt each posted eight.

For the Bears

  • Kennedy logged 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks to go with her 22 points. The sophomore played all 20 minutes of the second half.

  • Donovan added five assists and three steals to her stat line.

  • Hurt pulled three boards and dished out as many dimes.

  • Telford also registered four steals.

  • Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) collected six caroms.
