Mount Saint Mary Slows Down Women's Basketball
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's basketball team suffered a home defeat to Mount Saint Mary College, 85-60, on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
A 10-2 Knights (11-3, 8-1) opened the contest. The Bears (6-7, 4-5) used an 8-0 run of their own to come to within three, 18-15, with under three minutes remaining in the first quarter before the visitors entered the second with a 22-16 advantage.
The Bears kept the pace with MSMC in the second, closing the gap to as little as two, 25-23, on free throws from Aaniya Telford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) at the 7:48 mark. Alexis Breen's (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) nine points in the period helped St. Joseph's keep the damage minimal, preventing a double-digit deficit, as they went into the break trailing 45-38.
Mount Saint Mary gave themselves wiggleroom in the third, taking a 10-ppint lead in the early stages of the quarter at 48-38. The Knights scored 17 of the last 19 points of the frame, with the Bears unable to register a field goal in the span, to take a 75-46 lead into the closing period.
The Bears outscored their opposition 14-10 in the fourth, as Telford and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) combined for 10 points. However, it was not enough to trim their deficit, resulting in the 85-60 scoreline

Destiny Hurt (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) matched Kiley's rebound total and joined her in double-figure scoring with 10 points.
