Gambino and Valencia Sweep HVWAC Weekly Soccer Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Recognizing their outstanding performances on the field in helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team to a 3-0 record, Cynthia Gambino (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Daniella Valencia (Corona, NY/Bayside HS) have been named Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, for games played through Sunday, October 21.

Gambino recorded seven goals, including game winners against Fisher College and HVWAC foe Berkeley. The junior forward had an efficient .467 shooting percentage and recorded her second career hat-trick during a league win over Yeshiva. She now has a team-leading 12 goals and 25 points.

Valencia scored her second goal of the season, collected an assist and had a season-high four shots on goal in a win over Fisher.  The freshman forward also assisted on two other goals in a win against HVWAC opponent Berkeley. She is now third on the team in points with nine on the season.  

The awards are the first of Gambino's and Valencia's careers with Gambino's Player of the Week award the first earned by a Lady Bear this season. This is the sixth time that a St. Joseph's women's soccer player has received the Rookie of the Week honors.

Gambino, Valencia and the Lady Bears (5-3-2) have clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming HVWAC Tournament with semifinal play scheduled for Sunday, October 28th.
