Women's Soccer Drops HVIAC Decision to Albany Pharmacy

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In a matchup of two ranked United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) squads, the No. 12 St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team fell to No. 6 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Aviator Sports and Events Center.

The Lady Bears (5-2, 1-1 HVIAC) suffered their first Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (HVIAC) loss of the season to the defending league champion Panthers (7-3, 3-0 HVIAC) who remained perfect in conference play.

Albany Pharmacy controlled possession in St. Joseph's half of the field for most of the game with the Lady Bears playing a woman down the entire contest due to injuries. The Panthers outshot the Lady Bears 18-3 for the game and held an 8-1 corner kick discrepancy.

Sarah Cope found the back of the net twice in the 11th and 29th minutes and Rachael Spina scored in the 32nd minute to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at the break.

The Panthers moved ahead 4-0 before St. Joseph's got on the board in the 71st minute. Junior Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was sprung free by a pass from Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) and managed to shoot one past the goalkeeper from the top of the box with a defender one her. The goal was Fahy's ninth of the season and Chernyakhovsky's team-tying fifth assist.

The Lady Bears will return to the pitch against on Tuesday, September 30th hosting another USCAA foe Briarcliffe College at Aviator Field starting at 8 p.m. That game will be the nightcap of a doubleheader with the men hosting HVIAC foe Webb Institute at 6 p.m. Live stats for both games will be available at SJCBears.com.
