Fahy, Usta Earn AD3I and HVIAC Weekly Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Two St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer student-athletes earned honors for their outstanding play on the pitch last week. Junior Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was named the AD3I Player of the Week while freshman Cansu Usta (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) earned the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Rookie of the Week .

This is Fahy's fourth time winning the AD3I Player of the Week honor and the first time this season. Last year's AD3I Offensive Player of the Year put up impressive numbers during the Lady Bears' two wins over Briarcliffe and St. Elizabeth this past week.  She tallied five goals during the week, increasing her goal total to 14 which is in the top 10 of all of Division III.

The junior scored four of those goals in a 19-0 win over St. Elizabeth on October 3rd, her second hat trick of the season for St. Joseph's. Her four goals were part of a record-setting day for the Lady Bears, which scored the most goals in a Division III men's or women's soccer game this season.

The one-time AD3I Player of the Week Usta is in the middle of an impressive rookie campaign with her second HVIAC Rookie of the Week accolade this season. She netted seven goals and two assists during the two victories last week.  This included a six-goal, two-assist game in a win over St. Elizabeth.

Usta's 14 points in the game was the most in a NCAA Division III game this season, and the six goals tied four players including Fahy as the most goals in a game this season. Through Sunday's games, Usta boasts a Division III-best 22 goals and 50 points.

St. Joseph's heads back to the pitch Tuesday when they take on Lehman College at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Game time is at 6:00 p.m. with live stats at SJCBears.com.
