Candelaria Clears 200 Saves as Women’s Soccer Wraps Up First Season Under Lawson

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Senior Kristen Candelaria (Jamaica, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) tacked 15 saves on to her Bears single-season record to finish with 208 saves but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team took a 6-0 defeat to The College of Mount Saint Vincent in their season finale on Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Dolphins tested Candelaria with a shot just seven seconds into the contest that was the first of seven saves in the half for the senior, but their third attempt found the twine just three-and-a-half minutes in.
  • Mount Saint Vincent tacked on two more goals by the 25-minute mark before the Bears recorded their first shot with Christine Emigholz firing high for the Bears lone shot of the contest.
  • SJC kept the final 20 of the first half scoreless to trail just 3-0 at the break.
  • CMSV opened the second half with two quick goals in a span of less than a minute before the Bears settled in and Candelaria made eight more stops and kept the Dolphins from scoring for nearly 40 minutes before conceding a goal in the final minutes.

  • Senior Kristen Candelaria finishes with a Bears single-season record 208 saves, recording her 10th game with double-digit saves. She is currently ranked fourth in Division III in saves per game.
