Sequeira Garners Skyline Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week Accolades
NEW YORK — Helping to send the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team to their first Skyline Conference Championships, freshman Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) has been named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week announced today by the league office.
Needing an outright win in their regular-season finale last Wednesday to claim the final playoff spot, Sequeira's highlight reel goal in the 75th minute from the far right corner of the box lifted St. Joseph's to a 1-0 win over Sarah Lawrence.
Although the Bears concluded their season with a first-round loss to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, Sequeira still leads the Skyline Conference in goals (23, 5th in Division III), game-winning goals (5, 22nd in DIII), and points (57, 4th in DIII).
It is the third Rookie of the Week honor collected by a Bear this season following Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) who nabbed the award on October 2 and 23.
After a 1-12 campaign in 2016 with seven goals scored, Sequeira and Molic have combined for 40 of the team's 56 goals en route to finishing with an 8-8 overall mark this season in sixth place in the Skyline Conference.
