Sequeira, Rocha, and Loschiavo Selected as Women's Soccer Captains

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Head Women's Soccer Coach Gary Lawson has announced that rising sophomores Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), Rachel Rocha (Linden, N.J./Linden), and Lisa Loschiavo (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North) as captains for the upcoming fall campaign.

"These three student-athletes exemplify every quality we desire in our soccer program," remarked third-year head coach Lawson. "They will give great support to the team on and off the field. Lisa joins Deserae and Rachel as part of the captaincy group for this season and I liken this trio as the 'heartbeat' of our team."

Guided by Lawson last season, the three rookies led a squad that featured 10 newcomers to the program's first Skyline Conference postseason appearance finishing with an overall mark of 8-8—turning around a program that managed just two wins the two seasons prior.

Behind Sequeira's league-leading 23 goals—ranked third in the nation in goals per game—and Rocha and Loschiavo contributing eight goals and assists each while anchoring the midfield, the 2017 Bears improved to a +84 goal differential over their 2016 season.

Losing just three to graduation, Lawson welcomes another strong incoming class of eight to the Bears, who start their season on September 1 at Bard.

"I am excited to see the impact they will have on our young team and incoming recruits," concluded Lawson.
