Women’s Soccer Bests Brooklyn Behind Goals from Amadio, Vozella

NEW YORK — Sophomore Sabrina Amadio (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) finished with a goal and an assist to power the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over borough rivals Brooklyn College (0-7-0) on Monday night from Randall's Island.

Junior Ashley Vozella (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) also scored, finding the back of the net for the third time this season.

How it Happened

The Bears (4-2-1, 1-1-0 Skyline) opened the game on the attack, outshooting the Bulldogs 9-1 prior to the first goal. The visitors struggled to push the ball forward after a short goal kick; allowing Amadio to intercept a pass and shoot from just inside the box to break the scoreless deadlock in the 33rd minute. Vozella and Heather Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) managed to get shots off in an attempt to increase the SJC lead but the navy and gray went into the half with the one-goal advantage.

10 minutes into the second stanza, Christina Di Bartolo (Middle Village, N.Y./Forest Hills) picked out Amadio on a cross before dishing a pass to Vozella. The Pennsylvania native, on her first touch, floated a ball past the keeper's left for the Bears' second goal of the match.

With 26:52 on the clock, the Bulldogs got on the board when Priscilla Vixama poked the ball over the line, cutting the Bears' lead to 2-1. Despite ending the game sharing 50% of the possession, the Bears outshot 10-player Brooklyn, 24-4, en route to the 2-1 victory.
