Hat Tricks From Castaneda and Barrios Power Women's Soccer Past Yeshiva

NEW YORK —  Sophomore Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and freshman Katherine Barrios (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) scored three goals each as the St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's soccer team rolled to a 9-0 Skyline Conference win over Yeshiva University on Thursday evening at Randall's Island.

How it Happened

The Bears (3-3-1, 1-1) wasted no time opening the scoring as Castaneda scored 30 seconds into the contest taking a through pass from Casey Hobbs (Surprise, Ariz./Valley Vista) for a 1-on-1 with the goalie. In the eighth minute the navy and gray scored a pair of goals with Rylee Donovan (Buffalo, N.Y./Iroquois Central) netting her first collegiate goal and Barrios scoring 30 seconds later.

Barrios bagged her first collegiate brace with a strike in the 11th minute and Castaneda scored in the 16th, 24th, and 26th minutes to push the lead to 7-0.

Heather Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) scored her first of the season in the 30th minute and St. Joseph's carried an 8-0 lead into the lockers.

After the early scoring spree, the game remained scoreless for over 50 minutes until Hobbs slotted one in the final nine minutes of regulation for the final 9-0 margin.
