Castaneda Named Skyline Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

NEW YORK — For the second time this season, Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) was named the Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Castaneda began the Bears' 1-1 week with an equalizing goal against sibling school St. Joseph's (Long Island) last Tuesday night. She provided the go-ahead assist to this week's honor roll recipient Katherine Barrios (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), giving the Bears a 2-1 lead before falling 5-2.

On Saturday against SUNY Maritime, Castaneda scored the opening goal of the match inside two minutes from kickoff before doubling the SJBK lead 19 minutes later. She found her third goal before the hour mark to confirm her fourth career hat trick, third this season, in the team's 6-1 victory. She also dished out a pair of assists in the win.

Entering tonight's season finale against Sarah Lawrence College, Castaneda tops the conference in goals (19) and points (45) and ranks second in assists (7).

The Bears face the Gryphons in Yonkers on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. with live stats and video available on sjbkathletics.com/live.
