Castaneda Earns Skyline Women’s Soccer First-Team Selection

Castaneda Earns Skyline Women’s Soccer First-Team Selection

NEW YORK — Producing a Skyline-leading 19 goals to go with seven assists, Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) was named an All-Conference First Team selection. It is the second All-Conference selection for the sophomore, following a Second-Team selection last season. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday.

Castaneda started in each of the Bears' 19 matches this season, providing a goal and/or an assist in all but five contests. The two-time Skyline Offensive Player of the Week played a role in each of the five goals scored against Brooklyn College in just the second match of the season, finding the back of the net four times and dishing out an assist. She went on to have three more multi-goal matches including hat tricks in triumphs over Yeshiva in September and SUNY Maritime last month.

Her 19 goals were eight more than her total from her rookie campaign. Castaneda also led the league in shots (73) and points (45). Her league-topping 1.19 goals per game and 2.81 points per game were good enough for eighth in Division III while her seven assists placed her third in the conference.

The Bears wrapped up the season with a ninth-place finish (3-8, 9 points) and an overall record of 5-10-1.

The All-Conference and Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year awards are voted on by the Skyline Conference's 12 head women's soccer coaches based on regular-season play.
